Pedagogy and Curriculum Support

Workshop and Coaching for Grades K-6

Who is this for?

Our literacy and mathematics pedagogy workshop and coaching blends teaching, learning, and instructional practices for reading, writing, listening, and speaking strategies, and efficient mathematical supports for the novice to the most seasoned educator in a general, co-teaching, and/or special education classroom environment.

Why do your teachers need this?

Classrooms are always changing and require continual inquiry and reflection. In addition, we know education requires teaching and teaching requires learning. Instructing students from diverse backgrounds and ability levels, it is evident that all teachers need more support, coaching, and classroom resources to create a love of literacy and mathematics, develop efficient readers, writers and mathematicians, and encourage lifelong learners.

What will the workshop cover?

The CMDI pedagogy coach will deliver an interactive, practical workshop for the novice, apprentice, and master teacher. Coaches and educators will engage teachers with sustainable grade level literacy and mathematical strategies. This may include, but is not limited to, curriculum scope and sequence, guided teacher models with examples and suggestions, instructional lessons strategies for implementation, and an academic toolkit that will help guide educators to bridge the gap between reading and writing, while creating systematic mathematical thinkers.

Literacy Examples: understanding letter sounds and words for reading in a text, using prior knowledge to respond and write about a text, generating ideas and using specific craft moves as a writer, and developing a claim and strong reasons that support a topic.

Mathematical Examples: foundational number sense and mathematical operations, word problems, time, money, geometry, fractions, perimeter, area, measures, angles, data collection, geometry, percentages, rounding, algebraic equations, and mathematician checklists for inquiry, reflection and mastery of skills.

What is the role of a CMDI Pedagogy and Curriculum coach?

The pedagogy coach collaborates with district personnel to ensure all instructional support promotes the district’s mission, vision, and desired outcomes. The CMDI coach’s primary responsibility is to support the novice, apprentice and master teacher by providing direct classroom coaching feedback and pedagogy modeling in the interest of improving the educator’s instructional practices, while supporting the instructional curriculum and achieving greater student learning outcomes. Our effective and continuous coaching supports help guide teachers through the 5 instructional stages of instruction - engage, explore, explain, extend, and evaluate. Each stage of instruction details the ideas, concepts, and skills needed for teacher reflection and learning, while developing student inquiry and mastery of grade level skills.

Coaching services are offered for the novice, apprentice, and master teacher based on specific teaching needs, grade level curriculum, and student instructional abilities.
